Attorney General

The Texas Office of the Attorney General, led by Attorney General Ken Paxton, serves as the state's chief legal officer. The office employs over 4,000 individuals, including nearly 750 attorneys, across 38 divisions and 117 offices throughout Texas. These attorneys manage more than 30,000 cases annually.

The office's core responsibilities include defending the State of Texas and its laws, enforcing child support orders, protecting Texans from consumer fraud, and upholding open government laws. It provides legal representation to the state and offers legal advice to state officials.

Attorney General Paxton, elected in 2014 and sworn in on January 5, 2015, has been re-elected twice. His tenure has also seen actions against federal overreach, successful cases on immigration, school rights, environmental regulations, and religious freedom, as well as efforts against opioid marketing and synthetic drugs. The office also works to protect the elderly and provides resources for victims of crime.
