District Attorney Office

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office is dedicated to pursuing truth and justice through ethical standards. The office vigorously prosecutes the guilty, protects the innocent, and works to prevent crime within Santa Barbara County. Led by District Attorney John T. Savrnoch, who assumed office in January 2023, the office offers a range of services.

Key functions include a Victim-Witness Assistance Program, which supports crime victims and their families throughout the criminal justice process. This program provides specialized advocates for victims of elder/dependent adult abuse and domestic violence. The office also manages various diversion programs, designed to steer eligible individuals away from traditional criminal prosecution. These programs cater to those with low-level misdemeanor offenses, minor theft offenses, mental health issues, substance use disorders, or military service backgrounds.

Additionally, the District Attorney's Consumer/Environmental Protection Unit addresses crimes involving consumer fraud, environmental offenses, false or misleading advertising, and unlawful business practices. The office emphasizes public safety and works to implement alternative justice programs to help offenders understand the consequences of their actions and reduce recidivism.
