About Florida Justice Association
The Florida Justice Association (FJA) is an organization dedicated to strengthening and upholding Florida's civil justice system and protecting the rights of Florida's citizens and consumers. Established in 1961 as the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers (AFTL), it was originally formed from the Negligence and Compensation Lawyers of Florida (NACLAF), which began a few years after World War II. The FJA adopted its current name in 2007 to better reflect its organizational ideals.
The association works in legislative, political, and public arenas to ensure Floridians understand and can safeguard their rights to justice. Its mission includes advocating for individuals to have a fair chance to seek justice in state courts and holding large corporations to high ethical standards. The FJA provides premier continuing legal education (CLE) programming, access to the FJA Journal, and list servers for its members.
The FJA staff includes an Executive Director, General Counsel, and a Director of Legislative & Government Affairs, among others. The organization actively defends against corporate interests in Tallahassee to protect clients' rights and ensure every citizen has access to the courts.
