About Hawaii State Bar Association

The Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA) was founded in 1899 by volunteer lawyers and incorporated in 1985. Since 1989, it has served as the professional trade association for all lawyers licensed to practice law in Hawaii. With over 8,000 members globally, the HSBA's mission is to unite and inspire Hawaii's lawyers to promote justice, serve the public, and improve the legal profession.

The association's members are involved in various sectors, including community, business, government, and nonprofit organizations. Volunteer attorneys contribute thousands of hours annually to pro bono and community activities. The HSBA provides services to both its members and the public, offering resources such as information on affordable legal services and updates on the Judiciary. It also operates a Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) to connect residents with qualified attorneys. Additionally, the HSBA supports its members through continuing legal education, various committees, and specialized sections.

They weren't able to answer my question regarding a retired attorney's files but the lady tried her best to help me by referring me to another service who might be able to help. Much appreciated.

I called to ask a few questions about requirements held for Attorney's practicing law in Hawai'i and the woman was very unhelpful. She asked me more questions than I asked her. She kept trying to get me off the phone because she had other calls. Like mine wasn't as important! The worst part, she couldn't even answer the simple question. She said she doesn't know. There is only Hawai'i State Bar Association and apparently they hire people who know nothing. When I asked her if I could speak to someone who does know, she wouldn't help me there either. Overall, very unhelpful.
