About Illinois Attorney Registration

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) operates under the authority of the Illinois Supreme Court, which holds sole responsibility for regulating the admission and discipline of lawyers in Illinois. Since 1973, the Illinois Supreme Court has delegated administrative responsibility for these functions to the ARDC. The Commission is overseen by a seven-member body, comprising four members of the Illinois bar and three public members, all appointed by the Court.

The ARDC's operations are primarily funded by annual fees assessed against lawyers registered to practice in Illinois. The Commission maintains accurate records for all practicing lawyers in the state, providing public access to information such as business contact details, registration status, disciplinary history, and malpractice insurance coverage.

The Administrator, appointed by the Commission with Supreme Court approval, leads a staff of over 80 employees, including more than 30 lawyers. This staff is responsible for overseeing lawyer registration, conducting investigations into lawyer conduct and fitness, and prosecuting disciplinary cases and actions related to the unauthorized practice of law. The ARDC also administers a Client Protection Program, established by the Supreme Court of Illinois, which reimburses clients for losses caused by the dishonest conduct of Illinois lawyers or unearned fees from lawyers who have died or become disabled. This program is funded by lawyer registration fees and offers reimbursements up to $150,000 per loss. The ARDC maintains offices in Chicago and Springfield.

This organization is a joke. Even if you have a valid complaint with evidence, they don't even seem to investigate or care. Attorneys in this state can get away with misconduct easily and there doesn't seem to be any recourse for the people who were harmed by their behavior.

I am a Veteran from the United States Air Force. I have prior experience in working with high caliber government entities through my classified military service. The ARDC needs to work in conjunction with Federal Investigative Authorities in order to monitor and disbar Dishonest Attorneys that are EXTREMELY corrupt, unethical, and lack INTEGRITY completely. The ARDC should take immediate action when necessary regardless of whether an Attorney has mal practice insurance or not. Any body working and representing fair and equal "LAW" should require an SF-86 Security clearance at the very minimum to ensure Attorneys do not continue committing WHITE COLLAR CRIMES. To all citizens know your ILCS, Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct and Judicial Regulations. -Semper Paratus

"Therefore, as a general policy, this commission will not act on such allegations unless and until lthere has been a court finding that a layer was ineffective. " in my response letter. As it reads in there first paragraph of the to file a complaint it states "allegations" which means it does not have to have a prior verdict in a court. No where does it state that they have to be found guilty prior to contacting ARDC. My attorney clearly disobeyed rule 8.4c of the illinois Supreme Court. This is in direct violation of rule 751 and rule 780 of the illinois Supreme Court.
