About Legal Aid of Western Michigan
Legal Aid of Western Michigan is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to protecting rights, challenging injustice, and fighting poverty through free legal advocacy for individuals and families. The firm provides free legal services to eligible clients across a 17-county service area in West Michigan. Its mission is to ensure that no one lacks suitable housing, personal safety, family stability, or other basic life needs due to the absence of legal representation.
The organization focuses on civil legal problems that threaten clients' basic living needs, serving people living in or near poverty, as well as seniors. Staff attorneys, advocates, and volunteer attorneys offer representation in court and administrative hearings, provide legal advice and consultation, conduct community education events, and produce materials explaining the law.
Legal Aid of Western Michigan handles a broad range of civil matters, including:
- Family Law
- Housing
- Public Benefits
- Consumer Matters
- Tax
- Individual Rights
Eligibility for services is generally based on household income at or below 125% of the Federal poverty level and countable assets not exceeding $15,000. Special grant funding allows assistance for some clients with incomes up to 200% of the Federal poverty level, and seniors or individuals with federal tax issues may qualify even if their income exceeds normal criteria. Interpretation services are available at no cost to clients.

Legal aid, that will not aid you with the simplist of forms, If you're not an actual criminal needing to come up with your lies for court, they will not help you!

Just applied and really haven't heard from them yet though they said the day we talked that I would hear from them that afternoon or next morning. Lucky my court date isn't soon, I think I'd be screwed. Not sure for review yet, we'll see.

If you give them your information, they will most likely not call you back. They are not very helpful and I would not recommend this service for anybody.
