About Legal Aid Services
Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm dedicated to providing free legal help to Oregonians who lack financial resources. The organization focuses its efforts on high-need legal issues where individuals require the most assistance. LASO staff attorneys handle cases across various areas, including domestic violence, housing, administrative law, and public benefits.
Eligibility for free legal services is typically determined by financial criteria, often based on the Federal Poverty Level. While LASO aims to assist all who qualify, resources may limit the number of cases it can undertake. The firm operates through numerous regional offices located throughout Oregon, serving counties such as Benton, Clackamas, Crook, Deschutes, Douglas, Gilliam, Hood River, Jefferson, Klamath, Lake, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Morrow, Multnomah, Polk, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, and Wasco.
Legal Aid Services of Oregon was previously responsible for the day-to-day management of the Oregon Law Help website. LASO is also a key partner in the current Oregon Law Help project, contributing to an Advisory Committee that provides guidance for the legal information portal.

Steven Crawford is genuinely a dedicated and compassionate person. He has amazing attention to detail and communicated every update to my case in a timely manner. Mr Crawford went above and beyond for my family and I am so thankful for all of his efforts.

The lawyer lady was extremely cold and not understanding about disabilities. Im doing this on my own now because they are so limited. They are non profit so they are severely understaffed. The receptionist is very nice. But the lawyer i spoke to made me feel very uncomfortable and treated me very poorly because of my lack of understanding.

It looks like the general consensus for this place is that they claim to provide legal aid, but always seem to have an excuse why they can only refer you to the Oregon State Bar Referral Service and not provide the services listed on their website. They supposedly assist seniors, but based on the reviews I have read, I don't think they have helped any in years. Yet, they're still getting paid to deflect, via our tax dollars and public funding and grants.
