About Legal Services Alabama

Legal Services Alabama (LSA) is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal advocacy to eligible low-income residents across all 67 counties of Alabama. The firm was established on February 1, 2004, through the merger of three pre-existing legal services programs in Alabama, with the goal of enhancing resources and access to justice statewide. These predecessor organizations included Legal Services Corporation of Alabama (founded 1977), Legal Services of Metro Birmingham (founded 1977), and Legal Services of North-Central Alabama (founded 1969).

LSA operates eight offices located in Anniston/Gadsden, Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma, and Tuscaloosa. The firm focuses exclusively on civil cases, offering legal counsel, representation in judicial and administrative forums, community education, and self-help materials. LSA collaborates with other organizations to address systemic issues related to poverty.

The firm's core service areas include Domestic Violence, Public Benefits, Housing Issues, and Consumer Protection. Additional services cover Heirs Property & Estate Planning, Education, Community Re-entry (Voter Rights Restoration Education), Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC), and Disaster Relief. LSA aims to bridge the civil justice gap by providing client-centered legal support.

Don't waste your time with these clowns.I had reached out to them in desperation during a very stressful time where someone took advantage of this senior citizen. AL Legal ( Att. John Bowles) strung me along for weeks, stating and implying in phone calls that he may help me, once when we get close to the deadline. They then failed many times to even respond to me. Then, just a few days before the very important deadline arrived, they ducked out...sent me a "dear John letter" saying they cant help, and it was clear they didn't even know the correct current laws. The letter was filled with errors and mis-statements about what the REAL AL law states. From what I've now found out, it appears AL legal receives free Government Grant $$ to operate and their supposed to help citizens and seniors with it. In my opinion, they get this money and then do very little. In my case they did much more harm, than good. Best just to hire a real private lawyer or research online your issues and rep yourself. At least that way you wont be quoted incorrect laws/ facts, and won't be represented by lazy people.
