About Nevada Legal Services

Nevada Legal Services (NLS) is a non-profit organization established in 1981 through the merger of three smaller legal services programs, mandated by the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). Its mission is to strengthen the community by ensuring fairness and providing equal access to justice for low-income Nevadans. NLS provides free civil legal services across all seventeen counties in Nevada, funded by the LSC and other grants.

The organization offers a range of services, including direct assistance from brief services to representation in administrative hearings and in State, Tribal, and Federal Courts. NLS assists with various civil legal issues such as housing, government benefits (including SNAP, TANF, Unemployment, Social Security, and Veteran's benefits), record sealing, consumer law, bankruptcy, name changes, discrimination, IRS issues, work cards, and immigration.

Nevada Legal Services operates several specialized projects, including the Indian Law Program, Farmworker Law Project, Senior Law Project (covering estate planning, elder abuse, and guardianship), Veterans Law Project, Consumer Law Project, HIV Impact Project, and LGBTQ+ Project. Eligibility for services generally requires individuals to be low-income, though the Senior Law Project assists seniors regardless of income in specific counties. The firm maintains offices in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, and Elko.

Took 23 phone calls in 6 weeks to FINALLY get through to someone. Then instead of listening to a quick summary, the operator told me I'd have to drive into Reno and take a course on how to file in small claims court. The damage to my truck and rv totals in the $6k range. Then she told me I'd have to go to a different seminar before I could speak to an attorney.

Their location was changed months ago on Maps. The pin has been updated and it is now correct. It takes a while to get a call returned for legal help. I was told that the waiting time to get help will take months because of the shortage of pro bono attorneys and a high demand for low-income legal aid. The courts have explicit deadlines that must be met. Jessica Melgar, Pro Bono Assistant, who works as a liaison between lawyers and clients can be hard to reach. She came through and was a big help to me when another client cancelled their appointment. I honestly hope that more people will get the help they need when they can't afford an attorney. Others must donate plasma to pay for the cheapest lawyer that they can afford. Reno's Justice.

Please do not go here if you want to get any help from a Lawyer or the assistant. I was illegally evicted in March of this year. NLS Aj promised he would do whatever it took to help me. I never heard from him again. His associate text me to go to the CARES campus. I kindly declined, because I was just robbed and beaten up there. Because of my decline of his offer my case was closed. If you're wondering if I'm still homeless... Yes I am.

The building is very easy to find and once you get in the women at the front desk are so nice and then you see an attorney with an appointment and they really really explain things to so you can understand instead of the legal wordage that a lot of people don't.

This was a very negative experience for me and I honestly would not recommend! I was referred to them and they seemed willing to help, until I waited for over a month for someone to get in touch, only when I reached out to them did they reply. An attorney that had left their business had handled my case and apparently closed it out and I had no idea of anything they had done. I cannot say they are communicative let alone efficient. I have a pretty solid case and for them to just leave me at sea to sink is absolutely ridiculous and not a good look. Looks like I'm just going to have to earn my law degree through doing this on my own. So as for recommending I do not by any means recommend. They are useless please seek legal help elsewhere as they don't offer any kind.

I can not get anyone to call me back. I have submitted an intake form online, twice now! The first time I was almost done with the process of sealing my record and I the lawyer helping me just ghosted me after I did all this work. So months later I filled out another intake form and a lawyer called me and left a voicemail about a week later, but I must have missed her call. And I've been calling every single day for the last oh idk 4 weeks to try to get in contact with her and I have yet to receive a call back or an email or anything. So, now I feel like this is all hopeless!! And what's up with never getting any person to answer their phones every single time you call? What is going on with this place?

Such a blessing to have had Brandon Beckham and the staff at NLS. I was contacted by DETER stating that I was overpaid and was fraudulent in my claims $22,000.00 to be exact all the way back from COVID time. This had to be the most stressful situation I've encountered in my life in a very long time. Hands down Brandon Beckham was assigned my case and won even with short notice. I'm grateful to have had such a wonderful attorney and staff by my side to help me through this difficult situation. Thank you 🙏
