New Hampshire Lawyers Assistance Program

The New Hampshire Lawyers Assistance Program (NHLAP) was established in 2007 by the New Hampshire Supreme Court. It provides free, confidential, and compassionate assistance to legal professionals experiencing impairment that interferes with lawyer competency. NHLAP supports lawyers, judges, law students, bar applicants, families, and legal employers.

The program offers various forms of assistance, including mental health support, addiction recovery support, practice management resources, professional monitoring, peer support, career and life transitions, and addressing issues impacting bar membership. NHLAP helps with concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, aging, cognitive decline, eating disorders, gambling addiction, drug addiction, burnout, and compassion fatigue. The program does not provide legal services, advice, or individual treatment, but connects individuals with vetted clinical providers and resources. Confidentiality is protected by New Hampshire Supreme Court Rule 58.
