About Office of the Attorney General
The Office of the Illinois Attorney General serves as the state's chief legal officer, tasked with protecting the public interest of Illinois and its residents. The office provides a broad range of services across the state, with approximately 450 attorneys specializing in over 40 areas of law. Its structure includes an administrative division and ten law divisions, which oversee various bureaus.
Key areas of focus for the Attorney General's office include Consumer Protection, working to shield consumers and businesses from fraud and unfair practices. It also prioritizes Safer Communities by fighting crime, protecting children, and assisting crime victims. Environmental protection is another core responsibility, safeguarding Illinois' air, water, and land. The office defends the Rights of the People, upholding civil rights and advocating for workers, immigrants, individuals with disabilities, veterans, children, women, and seniors.
Furthermore, the Attorney General promotes Honest and Open Government by ensuring transparency in public information and meetings, combating fraud against Medicaid and government programs, and investigating official corruption. Specialized bureaus handle matters such as Antitrust enforcement, Charitable Trust oversight, Child Support, Child Welfare, Civil Appeals, Civil Rights, Criminal Justice, Government Representation, Public Interest issues, and the work of the Solicitor General. The office also ensures public accountability through adherence to laws governing information sharing and reporting.

had a deeply frustrating experience with the Illinois Attorney General's Office. After filing a claim against company, the assigned caseworker delayed responding to me for a long time. When I reached out today to express my dissatisfaction and request to speak to a manager, she refused—both by email and phone—to provide any escalation options. This left me feeling disregarded and trapped in a cycle of inaction. Based on my experience, it's probably better to handle issues with a company through private legal channels, as the state of Illinois has a reputation for doing nothing and using more of their time to dismiss your claim if your feeling their not taking the time to properly look into your concerns. Unfortunately, my case was a perfect example of that inaction. I hope this helps individuals in the future.

This office hosts the address confidentiality program for DV victims and survivors and knows that participants have been located due to the lax rules the program has regarding enforcement yet has chosen to ignore the issue completely. These same rules leave confidentiality at the discretion of other agencies-including voting offices- forcing participants to choose between the decision to vote or remain safe in the program. Countless attempts to reach someone about the failings of the program that takes states funds have done nothing to resolve the issue. I guess if you can so easily deny those who have already suffered a means of voting, you don't have to care because they can't vote against you without risking being found and revictimized. Also, the director of the ACP has knowingly held an application for 18 months without processing due to the applicant being disabled.
