About United States Attorney's Office

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois serves as the chief federal law enforcement officer and the nation's principal litigator in its district. It conducts most of the trial work in which the United States is a party. The office is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases brought by the Federal Government and handling the prosecution and defense of civil cases involving the United States.

The office's Criminal Division includes sections such as General Crimes, Narcotics & Money Laundering, Violent Crimes, Financial Crimes, Securities & Commodities Fraud, Public Corruption & Organized Crime, National Security & Cybercrimes, and Appeals. The Civil Division handles both defensive and affirmative litigation on behalf of the federal government, its agencies, and employees.

The office has a history of significant prosecutions, including cases involving public corruption, terrorism, drug trafficking, street gangs, financial fraud, and cybercrimes. It also works to aid and compensate victims of crime and recovers federal government losses through sanctions against companies and individuals involved in fraud with federal aid programs. The office operates in two divisions: Eastern (Chicago) and Western (Rockford), covering 18 counties in Illinois.

Absolutely horrible customer service. Took several days to even get a phone call back, and when I did the lady was incredibly rude. I was seeking help because there is a claim attached to my social security number that is for someone else. It's a frustrating situation as it is because I'm being held up on getting a home loan because of this, but to be treated with such disrespect and disregard is truly disheartening and infuriating at the same time. To the woman that returned my phone call, you do not belong in customer service. Someone with your attitude and demeanor has no business working for the people of the United States.
