United States Attorney's Office

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Alabama is one of 93 U.S. Attorney's Offices nationwide, serving as the largest of the three districts in Alabama. This office operates under the direction of the Attorney General and is responsible for conducting trial and appellate work in cases where the United States is a party. Each U.S. Attorney acts as the chief federal law enforcement officer within their district.

The Northern District of Alabama encompasses 31 of the state's 67 counties, including the populous cities of Birmingham and Huntsville. The office maintains a main location in Birmingham and a branch office in Huntsville. Its legal operations are structured into three divisions: Criminal, Civil, and Appellate, complemented by Administrative and Community Relations divisions.

The broader mission of the Department of Justice, which this office supports, is to uphold the rule of law, ensure national safety, and protect civil rights. This work involves addressing areas such as corporate crime, elder justice, gun violence, hate crimes, and human trafficking, as well as supporting victims of federal crimes.
