United States Attorney's Office - District of Rhode Island

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Rhode Island was established on July 3, 1790. Its mission is to seek justice on behalf of Rhode Island citizens by impartially enforcing federal law to protect public safety and interest. The office operates with approximately 23 lawyers and 26 support staff, divided into criminal, civil, and administrative divisions. The criminal division prosecutes federal offenses, handling cases such as violent crime, financial institution fraud, health care fraud, computer fraud, environmental crime, public corruption, organized crime, and drug and money laundering activities. It also addresses initiatives like Elder Justice, Opioid Addiction and Prevention, Project Safe Neighborhoods, Cybersecurity, Civil Rights Enforcement, and Human Trafficking. The civil division initiates affirmative litigation to protect U.S. interests, defends the government in lawsuits, and handles other civil matters where the United States is a third-party plaintiff, defendant, creditor, or intervener.
