US Marshals

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation's oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency, established in 1789. Its mission is to enforce federal laws and provide support to virtually all elements of the federal justice system. The agency's responsibilities include ensuring the security of federal court facilities and the safety of judges and other court personnel.

The USMS is involved in apprehending federal fugitives and criminals, exercising custody of federal prisoners, and providing for their secure transportation to correctional facilities. It also executes federal court orders and manages the seizure, custody, management, and disposal of assets gained through illegal means. Additionally, the Service is tasked with assuring the safety of endangered government witnesses and their families through its Witness Security Program, and collecting and disbursing funds as required. Its investigative operations focus on apprehending dangerous fugitives, investigating non-compliant sex offenders, and recovering missing children. The U.S. Marshals Service plays a critical role in preserving the integrity of the criminal justice system.
