About Chicago Lawyers Committee
The Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, founded in 1969, is a nonpartisan civil rights advocacy group dedicated to securing racial equity and economic opportunity. For over 55 years, the organization has worked to dismantle systemic racism and economic oppression, defending civil rights and advancing racial equity across Illinois and Indiana.
The Committee provides direct legal services, often mobilizing volunteer attorneys, to clients facing issues related to housing, education, and voting rights. Its work includes impact litigation, policy advocacy, education, and coalition building. Key practice areas encompass Education Equity, Equitable Community Development & Housing, and the Midwest Voting Rights Program.
Through its Economic Justice program, the firm addresses systemic inequalities in income, wealth, and access to economic opportunities. This program offers free legal support to qualifying nonprofits and small businesses in historically disinvested communities, aiming to help them maximize their potential, build wealth, create jobs, and advocate for equitable access to capital and economic development. The Committee seeks to realize greater racial equity and ensure equal justice for all residents.

I first had contact with the CLCCRUL in 2001 & they have been incredibly helpful to me and others If know ever since. They are an excellent nonprofit organization and if I were able I'd leave them a ton of cash to be well spent after I am no longer here. These folks are legal eagles & angels to the working poor, elders & folks with disabilities. Absolute Godsends!
