McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, also known as MVP Law, was founded in 1901 by E.S. McAnany and Maurice Alden in Kansas City, Kansas. The firm's initial goal was to establish a lasting institution that would serve families and communities for generations. Over its history, the firm's name evolved with the addition of partners Thomas Van Cleave, Sr., in 1915, and Willard Phillips in 1934.

MVP Law incorporated in 1978 and began a period of geographical expansion, opening its first office outside the Kansas City Metro area in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1996. Further expansion included offices in Springfield, Missouri (2006), Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Omaha, Nebraska (2011), and Springfield, Illinois, and West Des Moines, Iowa (2019).
