About Unemployment Law Project
The Unemployment Law Project (ULP) is a not-for-profit law firm dedicated to advocating for workers in Washington State. The firm's mission is to advance economic security for individuals during periods of unemployment by defending their rights and benefits. ULP also works to prevent economic insecurity among Washington's working population through legislative, regulatory, and policy changes that hold government agencies and employers accountable.
The firm assists individuals in challenging the denial of unemployment benefits through direct representation and a telephone helpline. Services include guidance on unemployment overpayments, appealing adverse decisions, and representation at unemployment appeals hearings. ULP also provides information regarding considerations when thinking of quitting a job and understanding rights after termination.
ULP is grounded in labor and social justice movements, emphasizing community, respect, and equity. The firm aims to remove barriers that often prevent individuals from participating in the justice system. Its team comprises full-time lawyers, an office manager, legal assistants, and a network of volunteer attorneys and students. In 2025, ULP represented over 400 individuals in administrative hearings, advised claimants through its helpline, litigated appeals in state courts, and engaged in legislative lobbying efforts.

had a great experience working with Andy. He makes sure to walk you through everything and that you understand the process and the legal arguments he plans to use. After months of having this stress, my case was overruled (in my favor) the same day. thank you Andy!!! only issue is the communication process of getting through to the service. you have to call and leave a message for a call back every time. so if you miss their call, you have to call back and leave a message again. I nearly missed my intake call because that call is from a blocked number (rather than their normal line), but my phone automatically directs blocked calls to voicemail. that's really my challenge with using ULP.

They DO call back. It might take a few days but they're the only free resource regarding UI in the Seattle area don't you think they're probably swamped with calls? Do you know any other lawyers/advocates that would even possibly take your case on a free/donation (albeit a very small one) basis? Give them a break, if they DIDN'T call back maybe you're the reason? Would you call back someone who blew you up everyday? Or left multiple rambling messages? Would you want to call that person back? These are people trying to do the most amount of good with limited resources. They're a charity, not a state / tax funded program, They don't OWE you anything. Be clear, be respectful, and be short with questions and long with listening to the answer. You should be ashamed of you left them a 1, 2 or 3 star review. Didn't your mother teach you beggars can't be choosers? If you don't like the way a charity Acts don't put yourself in a position to need a charity...

I appreciate the input. Wasn't anything I didn't already know. With the exception of knowing a Judge and how he mishandles the law in his favor. Hope the judge doesn't get rehired. Thanks for not caring.

Horrible Experience! lead me on to think I was going to get assistance, reached out multiple times, never received a call back after many voicemails. I would HIGHLY recommend going with other resources and save yourself frustration.

I finally got a call back after two weeks of waiting and the person who answered the phone was lifeless and very unhelpful. The whole time they sounded like they hated their job, And the lack of services or assistance provided was laughable. If you need someone to talk to who doesn't care to provide any information for helping with your unemployment, look no further and call now!
