The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation's oldest federal law enforcement agency, established in 1789. Furthermore, the U.S. Marshals Service manages and sells assets acquired by criminals through illegal activities, exercising custody of federal prisoners, and providing for their secure transportation to correctional facilities. The agency is also responsible for executing federal court orders and operating the Witness Security Program to assure the safety of endangered government witnesses and their families.
