The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) is the nation's oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency, established in 1789. It serves as the enforcement arm of the federal courts, playing a central role in the federal justice system. The agency's mission is to enforce federal laws and provide comprehensive support to various elements of the federal justice system.

Key duties of the U.S. Marshals Service include ensuring the security of federal court facilities, judges, and other court personnel. The agency is responsible for apprehending federal fugitives, investigating non-compliant sex offenders, and recovering missing children. It also manages the custody, security, and transportation of federal prisoners, executes federal court orders, and operates the Witness Security Program. Additionally, the USMS is tasked with seizing, managing, and disposing of assets gained through illegal means, and collecting and disbursing funds. These operations are conducted through interagency fugitive task forces, international operations, and close cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
